_Make payments a breeze with this POS system and QR code payment method.
Overview
The project involved designing and implementing an innovative point-of-sale (POS) system for Costa Rica that allows customers to pay using a unique QR code feature, the first of its kind in the country. The resulting POS system has the potential to transform the way people pay for goods and services in Costa Rica, making transactions quicker and more convenient for both customers and merchants.
My Role
As the UX designer, I led the design and implementation of an innovative POS system for Costa Rica that features a unique QR code payment option, collaborating closely with the development team to deliver a seamless and intuitive user experience.

1
Creating an ecosystem
The POS system featuring a unique QR code payment option was integrated with a sister app to create a seamless ecosystem that enabled merchants to manage their businesses more efficiently, with real-time sales data and streamlined operations.
2
A dashboard for business owners
The product was designed to cater specifically to small business owners, tailored the dashboard to the unique needs of small businesses, the system provided merchants with the tools they needed to optimize their operations, streamline their processes, and drive growth and profitability.
3
Full business management solution
The POS system and sister app ecosystem offered users the ability to manage collaborators and stores more efficiently, with collaboration management tools and a user-friendly dashboard for tracking sales, and monitoring performance across multiple locations.
Defining the Challenge
The challenge for this project was to design a POS system with a unique QR code payment option that would simplify the payment process for customers and merchants. The system also needed to be integrated with a sister app to create a seamless ecosystem that would enable merchants to manage their businesses with ease.
The User
We conducted user research and creating user personas for both business owners and final buyers. By considering both user experiences and designing with empathy, we were able to create user personas that captured the key characteristics and behaviors of each user group, and to develop user flows for the full user journey from start to finish.
Their needs
Distinct needs arose for business owners and final buyers in the QR payment system. Business owners required a user-friendly dashboard for store and collaborator management, while final buyers sought a secure and efficient payment experience. Simplicity and ease of setup were essential for their non-technical backgrounds.
Embracing iteration
This project significantly reinforced my commitment to embracing iterative design practices. Rather than striving for a flawless product in the initial attempt, we adopted the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) approach. Subsequently, we continuously refined this MVP by incorporating valuable feedback and observing user behavior. Throughout this process, we not only introduced small quality-of-life enhancements but also implemented more substantial features essential for propelling the platform forward. This iterative design philosophy proved to be a pivotal strategy, enabling us to optimize the product's functionality and user experience over time.
